The Characters

The main characters in The Sillingham Robins live in and around the seaside town of Sheringham in North Norfolk. Four of them have apartments in Sillingham House, which sits on the cliffs overlooking the sea. They are Tuppence, Tony, Ken and Harry.

Tuppence is an actress, recently retired, who moved from London for fresh air and quiet. The change from a busy to a sedentary lifestyle has played havoc with her waistline and drinking habits. She needs something to occupy her time. Advertising executive Tony is still unsure in his own mind whether he should give up work or not. Could he speak, his inherited cat would have encouraged him to do so. His comfortable life depended upon it. Ken is not well and is looked after by his wife Margaret. He is captivated by the sea and would happily spend all his time gazing out over the water, be it calm, stormy or anything in between. Harry is an undertaker with a phobia of dead bodies. He has a reputation for being difficult, unfriendly and mean. Maybe he’d rather do something else with his life.

Still living in Sheringham but in a cottage in the town is Henry. He is a lost soul. Ex-crab fisherman, ex-lifeboatman, he was used to bouncing around on the waves, hauling heavy crab pots over the gunwales and bartering with buyers. His life has become sluggish, boring and unhealthy. His grandson Wayne lives in Upper Sheringham and  chose technology over fishing for a career. A self-confessed geek, he is an expert in analysing IT system security. Sometimes not altogether legally. Anthony lives in Cromer and runs the local office of Harry’s funeral business. An ex-marine, bodies are no problem for him. When called on to do so, he is well able to look after himself. And the others.

Together, they set about bringing an unpleasant gang of criminals to justice.
